Why should you take a rest day?
Rest days are important to your overall fitness regimen.
Planning them out in a way that works is key. I have workouts and cardio goals for the week for my clients but I urge them to have at least one day where they do not train.
These are just a few benefits.👇🏽
▫️Repairing and building muscles.
👉🏽Exercise creates microscopic tears in muscle tissue. During rest days, cells called fibroblasts repair and build up the muscle tissue.
▫️Replenishing the body’s energy stores
👉🏽Glycogen is a form of energy stored in muscles. Exercise depletes glycogen levels, which leads to muscle fatigue. Rest days allow the muscles to further replenish their glycogen stores, thereby reducing muscle fatigue and preparing the muscles for their next workout.
▫️Preventing injury
👉🏽Over doing it puts repetitive stress and strain on the muscles, increasing the risk of injury.
🗣And last but now LEAST!🗣
💫Allowing the mind to rest
👉🏽Over training can tire the mind as well as the body. It’s also good to take a break and not think about the gym for a bit and come back to it fresh. You want to enjoy your time there, not resent it.
